We’re now entering the Regulation 19 consultation phase for the Milton Keynes City Plan 2050. At this stage, we’re asking for comments on whether the plan is legally compliant, based on strong evidence, and consistent with national planning policy. This plan sets out how Milton Keynes can grow in a way that delivers new homes, attracts investment and creates well-connected communities. It focuses on making sure people have access to schools, health services, shops and green spaces, while protecting the environment and putting infrastructure in place from the start. Since 2023, we’ve run a wide-ranging engagement programme, including events across the city and an online campaign. Around 7,000 comments were received, and your feedback has helped shape the policies now included in the plan. Before we submit the plan to government for independent examination, we’re asking for comments specifically on its legal soundness and alignment with national planning policy. If you’d like to share your views or suggest changes to help ensure the plan meets national requirements, you can do so until 22 December at 5:30pm. Read More...

Wavendon Parish Council is keen to hear from the residents and businesses it serves what they think of their Council, the services it provides and its value for money. This is the first of what will be an annual survey going forward enabling residents and businesses to provide feedback on what is important to them. The feedback gathered will help us to drive improvements to the services already delivered by the Council, consider what might be changed to reflect changes to the community served and to services offered by others, and plan our budget accordingly. In a bid to resolve the UK’s housing crisis, the government is planning to build 1.5 million homes by 2029 and establish up to 12 New Towns before the next election. The OU sponsored research in Milton Keynes, one of the fastest growing cities and one that is often hailed as one of the most successful New Towns, reveals that new housing areas offer a two-tiered experience with low-income residents often drawing the short straw. The research draws on experiences of residents in Glebe Farm and Eagle Farm South, amongst others. Read More...

The co-founder of Milton Keynes entertainment venue The Stables and long-time Wavendon resident Dame Cleo Laine passed away in July at the age of 97. Dame Cleo was a world-renowned jazz singer, enjoyed a successful career in musical theatre and was also known for her scat singing, a form of vocal improvisation. She founded the charity Wavendon Allmusic Plan, alongside her late husband and fellow jazz musician Sir John Dankworth in 1969. Having moved from Aspley Guise the couple then converted an old stable block in the grounds of their home in Wavendon into a centre for musical performances and music education, known as The Stables. The famous venue in Wavendon now plays host to around 400 musical gigs and 200 educational events each year. Paying tribute, David Meadowcroft, chairman of The Stables charity said: “Dame Cleo was a remarkable performer who was loved by audiences around the world and her commitment to ensuring young people had access to great music and music education will continue through the work of The Stables.” Chief executive and artistic director of The Stables Monica Ferguson added: “Dame Cleo was admired greatly by fans, other musicians and by The Stables staff and volunteers. “She will be greatly missed but her unique talent will always be remembered.” Former Trustee of the Stables and Chairman of the Parish Council Cllr David Hopkins commented “Dame Cleo and Sir John were both over the years active members of the community supporting the village Cricket Club and the Parish Church of St Marys. In their younger days you would see them both out walking on a daily basis, and it was their vision and drive that saw the Stables Theatre establish in the village and put Wavendon firmly on the map as an international venue much valued and praised by performers of all genres Our thoughts are with Jacqui and Alec and all her family and friends at this time”. Dame Cleo’s late husband Sir John died in 2010 on the same day as a concert was being held at The Stables to mark the venue’s 40th anniversary. Despite the news, the concert went ahead with Dame Cleo announcing Sir John’s passing at the end of the show. Read More...

The Parish Council has begun annually to award a Community Champion prize to a parish resident (or residents) in recognition of the outstanding contribution to the life of the community of Wavendon, in which he or she resides. In 2025, Roger Penfound received the award for his long-standing, unstinting and generous support and leadership to the Wavendon Village Army, not a paramilitary group but a group of individuals who go the extra mile making the flowerbeds, verges and many other areas of the parish look that little bit better cared for and loved.
